Loft Conversion & Rear Extension in Birmingham Completed
During 2014 this Loft Conversion and Rear Single Storey Extension was completed in the Bournville Village Trust Area of Birmingham. After gaining the relevant approvals from Birmingham City Council Planning Department, Bournville Village Trust and Building Control, the construction process began.

Loft Conversion Process
The Loft Conversion constituted under the householders ‘Permitted Development Rights’ so no Planning Approval was required. However the property is situated in Bournville Village Trust Area which means that Trustee Consent was required for the loft conversion and the rear extension. The trust also did not like the original loft scheme so we had to reduce the dormer width in order to gain Trustee Consent, this in turn made our clients bedroom and en-suite smaller than what they wished for. As you can see from the images our clients still managed to achieve that extra family space that their home required.
Rear Extension Process
The loft conversion was built first followed by the rear single storey extension after the scaffolding was removed from the property. The rear extension not only required Trustee Consent but also Planning Permission from Birmingham City Council. This was due to the proposed extension being more than half of the width of the original house in size.
This rear extension has added a fantastic space to the ground floor of this house providing an extensive kitchen dining room space – a perfect contemporary family living area! The Vaulted ceilings and installation of Velux Roof lights has created more light and expanded the room making it feel much larger.
